![]() If you're willing to wait until September 2023 to upgrade, then 7040 is an option but be aware that while the latest AMD mobile chips will once again be officially announced at CES next month, if the past couple years are anything to go by, they won't start being widely available in thin and light/business laptops until late summer (August to September for Ryzen 6000). Personally, I'd suggest hanging around r/LaptopDeals and when something checks your boxes at a good price, to read some reviews and pick it up. IMO, a 10-20% boost in performance isn't worth waiting around for an extra year - also for a laptop, it's much more important to take into consideration the things that matter do you - display quality (size, resolution, aspect ratio, brightness, color gamut), battery life, form factor, build quality, and price. Are these information I gathered accurate? Given the current performance and efficiency comparison between Zen 3 and Zen 4 desktop CPUs, would it be better for me to wait for Zen 4 CPU laptops if I am not in a hurry? I also have another alternative laptop with Intel 11gen GPU, and I felt quite regretted when finding Intel 12gen has significantly increased performance compare to a regular year-to-year update, so I do not want similar things to happen again. Also, the 7nm process to 5nm process change is likely to bring efficiency gains. The laptop Zen 4 CPUs haven't been announced, so this makes things less clear, but from the comparison between Zen 3 and Zen 4 desktop CPUs the IPC increase is moderate (~13%) while performance-per-watt seems to improve a lot at lower TDP. ![]() I would like to upgrade from an Intel i7-8550u+NVIDIA MX150 laptop built in 2018, so Zen 3+ would already be a significant upgrade for me, but I am mainly uncertain about how much performance gain a Zen 4 laptop CPU is expected to have compared to the current Zen 3+ CPUs. I am considering buying a new slim laptop with AMD CPU and integrated AMD GPU before September 2023.
